The Align Foundation
The Align Foundation, or Align, is an SF-based scientific research nonprofit working to create and host large-scale public biological datasets to enable better research & collaboration across academia, industry, and medicine. With a number of growing initiatives, they needed a stunning new visual identity to signal their legitimacy.
How Do You Design Data?
Align Bio is a nonprofit foundation helping to foster scientific collaboration through large-scale public datasets. It's an amazing pursuit that is... hard to visualize in a compelling and unique way. How can we ensure investors, academics, STEM businesses, and scientists alike glance at Align's materials and immediately feel—well, aligned? Rooted in the personality of the organization, I designed a system of friendly, goopy Tetris shapes that fit together in infinite combinations. It's a design language that works for patterns, graphics, small flourishes, and everything in between. Their logo is a modified version of these components too, made to look like three people standing in alignment.
Feeling It Out
The team sought for their brand to feel reliable, nurturing, collaborative, and innovative. I developed a brand system that spanned logos, colors, typography, graphic elements, photography, and more for their growing team to work with across a number of platforms & touchpoints.
